Presentation

Flashy fights

Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team packs a superpowered presentation that blows you away. The impressively detailed and colourful characters look and sound like their animated counterparts, flying around massive free-roaming environments and diving into intense battles. Laser beams shoot from hands in a spectacular flash of light, heroes and villains zip around with trailing speed lines and each impact feels weighty thanks to convincing sound effects.

The well animated characters also show battle damage on their clothing as the fight progresses, lending an exciting sense of visual drama to the conflict. Whether you're in the thick of the battle or just observing it, Dragon Ball Z's action is spectacular and always engaging.

If you're new to Dragon Ball Z, it's easy to enjoy the pleasing number of options Tenkaichi Tag Team offers. You can get up to speed with the vast Dragon Ball Z universe while building up your skills with the Dragon Walker mode, which lets you experience the original stories of the Dragon Ball Z animated series in a number of playable adventures. Need a bit more practice? The Training mode teaches you the basics, while Free Battle pits you against another foe from a choice of 70 characters, many of which can be unlocked by playing Dragon Walker mode.

Ready for a challenge? Reach for the skies with Battle Selection, where you tackle unique enemy teams in a series of challenges. How long can you survive against a continuous stream of powerful combatants?

Gameplay

Fire it up

Like its comic book and animated source material, Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team is fast and furious. The bulk of the game requires you to take part in deadly battles with up to three others - one partner and two enemies - as you fly, punch and blast your way to success. Swift and entertaining, the white-knuckle action is full of teleporting fighters, massive combos and flashy energy beams. Whether you're a fan or entirely new to the series, you'll enjoy the extravagant character signature moves on display, as well as the brilliant partner combinations you can perform on a hapless foe.

It's not all about stylish fighting, either. If you want to take a short break from the kinetic chaos there are plenty of diversions to mix things up. In the story-driven Dragon Walker mode you progress the plot by interacting with other characters on a colourful world map, their requests acting as side missions to your main objective.

While the characters remain faithful to the source material, you can make your mark on them with a range of customisation options. Using D-Points collected from your successes in the main game, you can increase any character's abilities by purchasing attributes such as extra Attack or Defence.

With grades awarded for your fighting style and ability during bouts, unlockable characters and even a fun mini-game where you have to catch falling fruit from a tree during the loading screen, there's an explosion of superpowered enjoyment to be had with Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team.
