Gameplay

Life is precious

The aim of the game is to occupy five fields on the board. The key to success within THE EYE OF JUDGMENT LEGENDS is in-depth knowledge of how the cards work, as you embrace the powers that your creatures and spells possess and use them to defeat your rivals.

Each player uses a deck of 30 digital game cards, which is made up of a combination of spell and creature cards. You summon a creature or spell using Mana, the energy needed to place digital game cards on the battlefield. Once summoned, creatures engage in a deadly battle and defeat will consign them to the graveyard. Use your spell cards to rotate enemies, reverse elements and heal your own creatures.

The five elements, fire, earth, water, wood and Biolith, are represented by both colour and texture, and play a key role in preserving the life of your creatures. Creatures summoned to a field belonging to the same element as them gain more hit points, and stay in the game longer. Summon a Bewitching Elf Archeress to a wood field, for example, and it gains hit points as it belongs to this element.

THE EYE OF JUDGMENT LEGENDS cards can now be downloaded from PlayStation Store, so let your journey begin.

Multiplayer

Perfect your duelling skills

THE EYE OF JUDGMENT LEGENDS features a multiplayer mode, that lets you battle with other players both online and offline. One player creates a Duel Room for their opponent to enter, and, once the challenge is accepted, the battle begins.

To access the multiplayer mode, you must play through a significant part of the story, and battle with the evil Preacher Noova. Once he has been defeated, you can access the multiplayer mode.

As well as allowing you to battle other players and perfect your duelling skills, multiplayer mode also features a Trading Room. In the Trading Room, select cards that you do not need, and trade them with other players to strengthen your deck.

Presentation

Mesmerising manga

While Naruto's roots are firmly placed in the original manga series, Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3 takes a lot of its look from the successful anime series. Featuring the same slickly animated style and visuals, the game is bright, colourful and constantly dynamic.

From the menu screen you're immersed into the vibrant tone of Naruto, with a choice of Practice mode, Free Battle for a customisable fight with any of the available characters on the 13 battle maps, the story-driven Master Road and other assorted modes to check your records and settings.

The fights reveal nicely animated visuals which act and sound like their cartoon counterparts. Everything moves at an astonishing pace, with dramatic zooming and panning to keep track of the characters, as well as intensifying the action. Special moves light up the arenas, bathing them in colour and flashes, while Ultimate Jutsu attacks are accompanied by impressive cutscene animations which can be watched individually when you collect them during your quest. It all works together to make a satisfying and faithful recreation of the source material.

Gameplay

The ninja way

There is always something going on in Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 3. As a beat 'em up that allows you to fight on multiple levels, up to four characters can brawl simultaneously in an arena, making for some fraught and fun gameplay. Battles can bounce between foreground and background, upper stages and ground floor all in the space of seconds, adding unpredictability to the smooth and fast fights.

Should you want a little more purpose than just beating your foes into submission, the Master Road throws you into a mission based story where there are a mixture of over 80 conflicts and side scrolling platform style objectives where you must fulfil a certain goal such as reaching the end of the level in time or defeating a number of enemies. These offer a break from the regular fighting action, and there are even some challenging restrictions during the main battles to keep you guessing.

Power-ups, bonuses and collectibles can all be gained, keeping the incentive to progress, although it's the large combos and special moves which steal the show. Sandstorms, energy barriers (which can separate combatants), extendable tails, flying dragon sculptures... all these and more will emerge during a bout, with entertaining and engaging results.

Gameplay

Fast and furious

Have you got the skills and speed to master some of the fastest gameplay ever on PSP? Welcome to the world of Half-Minute Hero, an intriguing game that requires you to conquer over 100 levels of mind-bending puzzles and tasks with just 30 seconds at a time on the clock.

With four modes to choose from, Half-Minute Hero features Hero, Princess, Knight and Evil Lord missions. During each one you are limited to a 30 second window in which you have to complete your goal; should the timer reach zero, the mission is over.

In Hero mode, you will encounter a mission that requires you to save the world from destruction at the hands of an evil force. Assisted by the Time Goddess you must pray to the statues that she has placed throughout the level, in order to replenish the ticking clock. However, praying costs money and cost rises each time you do so, earning cash is derived from battling monsters dotted throughout the world map.

In Princess mode, your goal is to save the King from a terrible illness by venturing outside the castle walls, defeating monsters and locating special items which will help him recover. The catch is the Queen will only keep the castle doors open for 30 seconds at a time so you need to be extremely fast at retrieving each object.

Things take a twist in Evil Lord mode where the game takes a Real Time Strategy (RTS) twist and the object is to fend off attacks coming towards you using the appropriate troops in battle. Lastly, you have Knight mode where the goal is to let the clock run out as you try and cast a spell on the map to rid the area of invading monsters.

Multiplayer

Half minute heroes or villains?

Half-Minute Hero features Wireless multiplayer via Ad Hoc Mode where you can play alongside three other friends. Choose from up to three maps to battle against the Evil Lord on. Strategies for each map will vary as you play through them but end goal remains the same - defeat the Evil Lord.

As well as fighting alongside your friends, you can also fight against them in Battle mode, where you can trigger battles by holding down the R button and colliding with them to initiate a duel. If you encounter your friend while they are battling monsters, you can press the R button again to join the monsters and try and defeat your opponent. Should you lose, your hero gauge will be halved, so make sure you want to fight before you trigger one!

Story

The Prince is back

Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands is the next chapter in the epic Sands of Time universe.

Following his adventure in Azad, the Prince learns that many of his cousins have disappeared and so begins seeking information as to what has happened to them. The Prince is soon confronted by mysterious Helem who offers him magical powers to defeat the one responsible for his family's demise. To put a stop to this dark power and save time itself the Prince must join forces with Helem and slay an unimaginable evil.

Taking place between Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time and Prince of Persia - Warrior Within, The Forgotten Sands is a breathtaking new chapter in the saga of the Prince.

Gameplay

Control the Sands

Prince of Persia - The Forgotten Sands is a side-scrolling platforming game that puts you in control of the heroic Prince of the series as you navigate through a treacherous world filled with traps, puzzles and deadly enemies. At the outset of the game you join forces with a mysterious entity known as Helem, a firefly-like creature that circles ahead of you as you traverse the environment highlighting areas of interest. Helem also grants you the ability to manipulate time, allowing you to slow down the flow of sand in certain parts of a level in order to solidify it using the L and R buttons. Once solid, you can then use it like a pole to vault from.

You can also speed up time which in turn shoots the sand out of the ground and can be used to push enemies out of the way or elevate you to higher ground. The power of slowing down time is perfect for avoiding traps and slowing down enemies so you can quickly dispatch them. As you progress through each of the levels you'll collect elixirs, which in turn can be used to beef up your health bar or upgrade your attacks.

Combat in the game is simple: press the Square button to slash and the Circle button to perform a block while fighting or a dodge when moving. Well timed taps of the Square button are perfect for triggering a series of slick and hard-hitting combo attacks on incoming foes. Prince of Persia - The Forgotten Sands features a wealth of platforming challenges, hordes of ever increasingly difficult enemies and some truly terrifying boss battles for you to overcome, but one thing is for certain, you're guaranteed to have a huge amount of fun as you discover your new powers and realise a hero's destiny on PSP.

Presentation

Flashy fights

Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team packs a superpowered presentation that blows you away. The impressively detailed and colourful characters look and sound like their animated counterparts, flying around massive free-roaming environments and diving into intense battles. Laser beams shoot from hands in a spectacular flash of light, heroes and villains zip around with trailing speed lines and each impact feels weighty thanks to convincing sound effects.

The well animated characters also show battle damage on their clothing as the fight progresses, lending an exciting sense of visual drama to the conflict. Whether you're in the thick of the battle or just observing it, Dragon Ball Z's action is spectacular and always engaging.

If you're new to Dragon Ball Z, it's easy to enjoy the pleasing number of options Tenkaichi Tag Team offers. You can get up to speed with the vast Dragon Ball Z universe while building up your skills with the Dragon Walker mode, which lets you experience the original stories of the Dragon Ball Z animated series in a number of playable adventures. Need a bit more practice? The Training mode teaches you the basics, while Free Battle pits you against another foe from a choice of 70 characters, many of which can be unlocked by playing Dragon Walker mode.

Ready for a challenge? Reach for the skies with Battle Selection, where you tackle unique enemy teams in a series of challenges. How long can you survive against a continuous stream of powerful combatants?

Gameplay

Fire it up

Like its comic book and animated source material, Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team is fast and furious. The bulk of the game requires you to take part in deadly battles with up to three others - one partner and two enemies - as you fly, punch and blast your way to success. Swift and entertaining, the white-knuckle action is full of teleporting fighters, massive combos and flashy energy beams. Whether you're a fan or entirely new to the series, you'll enjoy the extravagant character signature moves on display, as well as the brilliant partner combinations you can perform on a hapless foe.

It's not all about stylish fighting, either. If you want to take a short break from the kinetic chaos there are plenty of diversions to mix things up. In the story-driven Dragon Walker mode you progress the plot by interacting with other characters on a colourful world map, their requests acting as side missions to your main objective.

While the characters remain faithful to the source material, you can make your mark on them with a range of customisation options. Using D-Points collected from your successes in the main game, you can increase any character's abilities by purchasing attributes such as extra Attack or Defence.

With grades awarded for your fighting style and ability during bouts, unlockable characters and even a fun mini-game where you have to catch falling fruit from a tree during the loading screen, there's an explosion of superpowered enjoyment to be had with Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team.

Gameplay

I ain't afraid of no ghosts

PAC-MAN has been fairly consistent in his 30 years of life, making his way round various mazes, munching on Pac-Dots and evading waves of angry Ghosts, hell-bent on ending his virtual feast. PAC-MAN Championship Edition DX, however, introduces some new twists to make the PAC-MAN experience even more frantic, exciting and addictive than ever.

As PAC-MAN, you chomp your way through nine mazes filled with irresistible Pac-Dots and delicious fruits which earn you points, unlock new levels and give you a great sense of satisfaction. As you tear around the different mazes you'll be confronted by angry Ghosts who will end your food rampage, and your life, if they touch you. Also lurking within the mazes are sleeping Ghosts, who are harmless until you get too close and wake them from their gentle slumber. Once awake, they will join their angry comrades and hurtle after you.

There are of course, ways to outsmart these colourful spirits - one of which is to eat Power Pellets. These magical little treats will pop up in mazes for you to devour and, once swallowed, will turn your enemies into blue, vulnerable beings that not only make a great snack, but also earn you loads of points, especially when gobbled in bulk. Build up huge chains of Ghosts, and when you've got plenty on your trail, strategically munch a Power Pellet and rack up loads of points by changing direction and scoffing all of your pursuers.

Along with the sleeping Ghosts, bombs have also been introduced to help you out if you get into some sticky situations. If you're being chased by too many Ghosts or you're stuck in a corner with no way out, simply set off a bomb and see your foes blown back to their Ghost Hideout.

Try your hand at various game modes across the different mazes, including loads of Time Trials and Score Attacks and unlock even more arcade mayhem.
